Title: Wide ratio gears in a GS T-10?
Post by: kcombs on February 16, 2013, 12:07:19 PM
I saw a post here recently were wide ratio gears were used in a GS T-10 tranny. Just wondering I can use the gears out of a regular T-10 to make that swap and if the replacement gears can be had that are the same strength as the originals. Strength may not be an issue considering I will not be racing or speed shifting the Buick, but I do like to romp on the gas occasionally so I want to make sure the gears can take the torque.  :angel4:

Sorry I forgot to answer that!
The gears I used wer from Larry's. Dennis Maroudas also has the high nickel wide ratio if I remember right.  They have a single "ring " around the input shaft.
Still high strength but better ratios!

Wide ratio sounds good to me. I remember back in the day, 1965ish, everyone thought close ratio was cool, but I never liked first gear and the way it launched. So wide ratio sounds like a good option to me. Thanks for the info and I will check with my local tranny builder and see what it will cost to make that change.
