Is it totally impossible/not worth the effort to use a '67 or newer clutch pedal assembly in a '65? Has anybody found anything besides the ones reproduced by The Parts Place inc?
-
...or are pre-'67 GTO/Chevelle pieces ok to use?
Thanks,
Rick

Hi,
I believe any A-body pedal setup 64-66 should work, 64 & 65 are the same, 67 were different because of the column, but not positive.
Only thing I have seen different on the pedals is the pivot pin, sometimes its a stud with a nut other times its welded to the clutch pedal.

67 pedals won't work in the 64-65 models without extensive modifications, and even then they won't be quite right. Pedals are also unique to the Buick--each GM division had slightly different variations on the pedals.

So the 'universal' conversion kits I see are not so universal? Can anybody explain the differences?
Thanks,
Rick

There's a great thread on V8Buick covering the 64-65 small block 4 speeds. Bunch of pedal pics in post #9:

Compare those pics to pics found on eBay after searching '66 Chevelle clutch pedal' like this one:

They look the same to me, but I was told there was a difference in the piece that's welded to the pedal (for clutch pedal rod and return bumper). If it is different, it should be able to be modified.
The rubber return bumper is thinner on the Buick version, you can trim the Chev repo to fit.
A pedal assembly, z-bar and even a bellhousing from a V6 or 300-340 column shift car will work with a 300, 340, 350, or even a 400-430-455.

Thanks for posting the info Walt. Your information helps answer the mystery of the pedals.
