Title: ***Help, One Brake Light Won't Work!!!***
Post by: Joe65SkylarkGS on July 29, 2009, 11:29:57 PM
So my tail lights never gave me a problem. Ever. So a few weeks ago I had a friend take apart my steering wheel to replace the directional handle that was ripped out a while ago. I didn't think to check the brake lights the day we had it apart. We also fixed the horn.

So my question is, does this seem likely where my problem is?

According to the diagram, the yellow wire feeds the driver side brake light. I see it in the harness under the column but what to do???

Joe,

My hardtop has the same problem.  The taillights, and turn signal functions work just fine on the right side. However the brake light function on the right side does not.  I've replaced all three bulbs, but still no brake function on the right side only.  Because the other lighting functions on that side and the left side work properly, that suggests that it is not a ground problem. One of my Buick friends thinks that the problem is in the wiring harness that is part of the tilt steering column. Says that it is not that uncommon.  However, I can't track it down. My limited knowledge of electrical issues is my problem. I hope you can solve it and let me know what you did to fix it.  Good luck!

Many times the problem lies with the signal light switch itself. The yellow wire usually breaks at the switch. NAPA has some signal light repair kits for some models. With tilt & without. Need to look up the kits in the electrical parts book.

Where exactly is the signal switch Tom?

I'm going to check it out in the am. I'll call you tomorow .  Hopefully I can get a hold of you at the shop cause you never gave me a cell number.

Ok here's the deal, when my buddy Bill fixed the blinker he accidentally had one of the little metal springny type of connectors that are on the plug fall out. This plug is the harness and it goes to the cam bearing thingy. I need to know what this thing is called because it's pretty much spent. Only a few actual ball bearings present.

So there you go John. It's in the column.

No cell number as I have NO cell. Too old school & too high tech for me. Besides my chubby fingers always hit 2-3 buttons at the same time. Even these computer thingy's are out of my line.. I've learned how to properly turn them on & off & reply to e-mails. As far as I need to go. Everyone says I need a website. Too much time needs to be invested which I'm not willing to invest. Time is too short already. Other & other's projects take presidency. If you have a tilt wheel the switch is at the bottom of the colunm operated by a cable.
