Anyone have an original 65 GS 401 exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head bolt (that is not installed)? Need to know the correct length. Mine were rusty junk when I got my car, so I put some off-the-shelf bolts in it when I put the car together. Trying to find some of the correct appearing black zinc bolts now and want to get the correct length.

I did the same thing and know want to get more OE bolt and put the French locks back on. Bolt I have are slightly over 1" one with lock washer is later 66 GS. I was told the early 66 GS used the same as 65 with the French locks. The bolts I have some have different letter/number on the head, some none.

This is what I have found. Obviously will not need the washer, but the bolts look correct. Any opinions?

I'll get some pics later and post them. The length in Bill's picture looks about right.
I don't think the french lock fits under the alternator bracket, so I'll yank one of those out.

I visited Tractor Supply next door over lunch break and lo and behold, the grade-5 bolts they carry are the black/dark olive color zinc! They have them in 1" and 1.5", so I got 20 of each. I can easily cut the 1.5" ones to 1.25" length in my lathe.
