Title: A little more progress on the 66
Post by: gs spoken here on August 26, 2015, 04:05:45 PM
The motor is in. Next the flywheel, bell housing, new clutch and presser plate, and a new through out bearing. then the clutch linkage and then ready for the trans.

Very nice job...make sure you line the hole up on the flywheel. It goes on in any position, but only one is correct. (Probably already knew that)

Thanks for the reminder, I am also going to de-glaze and clean up the flywheel clutch surface with some 180 grit on a DA. Thanks Bill.

Bill,
In my experience, you need paper in the 40-80 grit range to make any change to the flywheel surface.  Last one I did that way, I used 40 grit on the DA, and had to lock it in rotation only mode, then I was able to put a circular hatch pattern on it and it worked perfect.

It's looking great Bill!! How's the body doing??
While we're on the subject of trans stuff, if you use 1" ARP flywheel bolts, make sure they are not too long or they will bottom out against the block.

Nice to see a '66 resto here...... I never could get used to those green Nailheads! :tongue3:

Walt, just using the OEM bolts and a little lock tight and torque to speck.

The body is on the car trailer in the building, it should go to my friends shop later this week or early next week and put on the rotisserie. Nice thing about this one no rust, just some dents and clean up and replace a few under panels from old damage they did not do. pass trunks drop and 6 inches of trunk floor for damage, no rust. Only two body bolts to replace cage nuts on, the ones behind the rear wheels. Most work will be to replace the panel between the rear window and the trunk. It is not bad but the under structure is rusted and someone used a air gun  to cut speaker holes. I bought an Ames top panel, seem to fit good, may be slightly lighter metal, will try the to coat the under side with bed liner for strength. I have a good rust free under panel from another 66 GS hardtop. I has been removed and de-rusted and epoxy primed, and test fitted to the new upper. So we kinda know what to expect. Some of the other parts have been de-rusted, and epoxy primed and painted or primed with sand-able primer or under the hood black. Inner fenders, both front fenders, and the core support. Still need to strip and prime both doors, deck lid and hood. I will work on striping the body and parts, while my friend work on the dents and panels. Going to use a 8" DA with 40 and 80 grit to strip, this car has only one coat of paint in most areas and max of two in a few spots.
Title: Oooh! (Re: A little more progress on the 66)

Dear Mark and mid-60s fans of . . . a bit of high-tech!

This one is for you.

Oooh!  That sure looks like an EZ-EFI system on top of that nailhead.  So my trusty wagon isn't the only mid-60s Buick with an EZ-EFI system after all!

Cheers, Edouard

Except that one doesn't look like a nailhead. I really like that setup though!!
Title: Yup, that's a big-block! (Re: A little more progress on the 66)

Dear Jim and fans of mid-60s Buicks,

Except that one doesn't look like a nailhead. I really like that setup though!!

Oops, the paint color is correct, but indeed that is a later 60-70s Buick big-block.  So that means there are at least 2 mid-60s Buicks with big-block engines and EZ-EFI setups! . . .

Cheers, Edouard
