Started a list of parts & suppliers making & selling parts for 65 Skylark & GS some time back, but never completed it. This thread is for adding to the knowledge. Detailed information from past threads can be used to update this, so if you search and find something useful, post here.
I need to sort through my receipts for additional parts plus part numbers. There is also an Excel doc that has been created by Tony (tsollazo) with all hardware & rubber bumpers listed available from AMK. Hope to be posting that here soon.
Here are some of the parts and services you might need if are restoring a 65 GS. Many of these will be applicable to 66 GS:

Wow! Great info Mark and others. Thanks again for sharing and I hope to contribute as well.

Priceless...I never expected the parts source Odyssey for a 65 car that I did. Mark and the group on this site are amazing.
As Mark mentioned, I'm the one putting together a full fastener list based on AMK. AMK has 90+% of the fasteners for this car. That is in form of thread, length, head, etc. measurements. In some instances the head markings aren't identical but I don't believe they were from plant to plant anyway? :dontknow:
Because I'm on the OCD side, I want to make a complete and thorough list validated through the re-assembly of the car, which we are doing over the next month to 6 weeks.
As a result we should have a complete "kit" from AMK....including the hardware that AMK doesn't have a match for....which you'll need to blast and re-plate, paint, etc.
Stay Tuned!

Tom ,
Do you have forged pistons in stock and ready to ship ?
and do the come with rings and pins . i,m getting close to ordering a set .

I have a brand new set of JE's. 8.5:1 .062 over. Rings pins and pin locks.

I have a brand new set of JE's. 8.5:1 .062 over. Rings pins and pin locks.
I didn't know JE made nailhead pistons . why are they 8.5:1 ? I,m not sure I want to go .062 over , seems like a lot .
-
.060 is pretty common. These wee made .062 so as to use standard BB chev rings.
-
John, NO pistons are in stock as they are ALL custom pistons are made to order. ANY in stock pistons are cast & NOT forged & you will end up with the likes of Egge pistons where they fit ALL apps. & will usually sit in the hole about .065" so you may end up with around 8-1 compression if your LUCKY. I need ALL the specs, as mentioned previously, beforehand & there's about a 2 week turn-around. They include pistons, of course, rings, pins & pin fitting. I can NOW order one set at a time.

Hi Tony - any progress on the AMK list? Thanks!
-
Dan,
I have the list. It's in an Excel doc, which can't be attached. I played with saving it out to different formats, but all the columns get broken up.
Coming to you via email. I do need to get the parts list and sources here updated.
Thanks.
Mark
-
Dear Dan, Mark, and mid-60 Buick car owners connected by the Internet, . . .
I have the list. It's in an Excel doc, which can't be attached.
Do you have some way to compress the Excel file into a .zip format? Most forum software will allow you to upload a .zip file. The zip format started on the PC world but it was adopted by Apple and that's where I use it. Still, I would assume that Windows gives you some reasonably easy way to compress a file into zip format.
Cheers, Edouard
-
Tony sent his fasterner database to me last year and I've added to it as I've identified additional parts that I needed. It's not complete, and some of the AMK numbers have not been identified. Use at your own risk! :icon_thumright:
Thanks to Tony for starting this! And if you need a different format, let me know and I'll see what I can do. This is in PDF format, which I think I can upload. Fingers crossed.

Poor link. Use category Hardware, sub-category wheel well molding screw kit
Not sure if they are correct and they will not meet the minimum order $$$.
There is actually a picture with this part for your reference. Part HB5288Z. Maybe you can find them at a hardware store. They are stainless steel.

No doubt Amk has them too. I didn't put them the database as my car doesn't have wheel well moldings.

Those look right to me. I have a some originals laying around, if you need pics I can post later.

Mark Tony Dan
Thanks for taking the time to help me.
I'm getting the idea these screws are philips, layered flat head and stainless.
I have seen them in self taping and non.
Mark
If you have originals can you check to see how long they are and perhaps what size? 5/8" #8 ?
Thanks again for the help

FYI, from what I have seen, there at least 3 head sizes. 65/72 small head 73/77 bigger and 78/87 bigger yet. I think I have one of each out of cars I can post picture.

Hi Milton,
Take a look at Tony's AMK spreadsheet that I posted at the top of page 3. I've added listings for the "SS Wheel Moldings" for front and rear. On my two cars the fronts and rears are different. Here's what I purchased:
Front: Original 8-18 x 3/8 Pan head. AMK B-12057: 8-18 x 3/8 Pan head tapping screw, zinc (dark silver). Looks like the original except a slightly thinner head.
Rear: Original 8-18 x 3/8 Round washer head. AMK B-10063: 8-18 x 7/16 Round washer tapping screw, chrome on stainless.
I dug them out and compared them to the screws from our parts car. The fronts appear to be accurate, but with just a tad thinner head. The rears have a slightly larger head and are about 1/16" longer than the originals, but are as close as I could get from the AMK catalog. Pictures attached.
An FYI, these screws from the parts car appear to be the same as those from my other two 65s.

Milton,
I just dug out the wheel opening moulding bag o screws.
I'll report back tomorrow.
Mark
-
Milton,
This is what I scrounged up. First 2 pics are old screws. Seemed to be a few slight variations in them as Bill Sangster notes, but all have phillips pan head with a flat edge. I also have remains of some new GM screws, but they are a slightly different style for later cars. No part numbers on the bags. As long as they have a phillips pan head with the small edge, you really can't go wrong. I looked up the screws at the link Dan posted, and those will work.

All
Thanks to everyone I now know what I'm hunting for.
These items have also been added to the AMK list as indicated below.

Dear Dan and mid-60s Buick caregivers with a bent for doing things yourself,

Shorty console emblem CP10815S
Hmm, very interesting! Here is the direct link to The Parts Place webpage:
https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/product/buick-skylark-gs-regal-gn-console-door-tri-shield-emblem/56416 (https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/product/buick-skylark-gs-regal-gn-console-door-tri-shield-emblem/56416)
Of course it is great news for restorers, but it would be just as wonderful if installed in a custom-made console or other piece of interior trim. For many years, my trusty wagon had a generic "saddle console" that went in between the front passengers on the bench seat. I have wanted to build my own that fit and looked better. I just might incorporate that emblem into that project!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

1111083 & 1111055 are the correct Skylark or GS tag #'s
Date code format: First number is year (i.e., 1965 = "5"), next is a letter (e.g., "B" = February), finally a number that is the day of the month. So "5 B 16" = February 16, 1965

Emblemagic has a notice on their website saying that they are downgrading their business to a hobby. They won?t take rear center emblem inserts if cracks or crazing are present, and they don?t have any more inserts available to sell. Sadly, it seems this vendor is no longer a resource for us. I am searching for another company who can provide this service, but haven?t found anything yet.
