Looks decent in the pics, you never see an engine swap that they actually put all the A/C parts back together. Someone swapped out everything to make it actually work again at some point. The lower quarters look pretty good as far as I can tell. I am actually working on mine this week and those lowers can be a bear if they have had any damage. If it warms up better than 10 degrees I might get something done. This white car is interesting, but I have no idea how you would replace those door and quarter trim panels. I think those are unavailable.Dan
-
You are correct Dan, no one reproduces the post car door panels.
It was looking good till the engine compartment.

Anyone notice that it has a complete set of the original 65 chrome road wheels on it? How many do you ever see for sale that still have those with it?!
-
It's hard to tell but it looks like it's missing the correct center caps on those rims.
-
Loren,
This would be a good place for that "Chris" guy in Ohio to park his extra motor......lol. It would be a nice car to rescue before it gets hacked, wacked, and retroed to death. I don't think a lot of people realize how few of these were made or still exist. Post cars are rarely original GS and probably more desirable than hard tops to many. I wish the car was closer to me so I could see it , but it may be better to get back to work on the one I started, Dan
-
Interesting trim tag. Wish it was closer, I've always wanted a post car.

Or .... the done 2x4- 401 sitting in my storage would look good in there too.
Some good pictures of both quarters and taillights would be nice.
Does appear to have the first generation wheels and definitely latter center caps.

its funny..i thought it would slide by the 65 guys..lol...
Ive been communicating with the guy, have shipping scheduled and just waiting it out....i posted a wanted ad..wanting a white with blue interior post car..and VIOLA...it popped up on the bay....
I'm going to try to get it...but its 1200 to just ship it...seeing whats there...whats wrong...whats right..i kinda feel 4500 plus the shipping is all the money on the table....i may be wrong..i dunno...but theres a local hardtop GS w a 4 speed and the guy cant get 14G and its an extremely nice red on red 4 gear....id probably be way ahead getting the local one..but i want a post car...
-
Best of luck with the auction.
The local car you are referring in KC ?
Loren
-
yes..in KC on craigslist..i first saw it at an estate sale..the guy that has it now..i dont know...but hes def trying to make a buck..no problem with that...but its been for sale for some time and he cant get $14G..i believe it was less than 12Gs at the estate sale and it didnt sell right away..they took bids etc..i dunno..nice car..lots wrong..but very decent...
-
The one I'm thinking of, another forum member had looked at and decided to pass.

Not much slips past this group. :icon_biggrin: If there's a 65 for sale someplace, these guys are good at sniffing them out. :icon_thumright: :occasion14:

A factory a/c car to! kind of interesting that it is a Baltimore built car on the west coast with s code on the body tag?
-
It is an interesting car. Anyone have an idea what the 'Z' to the right of the 'S' would represent? Another interesting question is the '1' in the lower right corner. Note the lack of an A/C code?
I looked at Chris's matrix but did not see the'Z'.

The starting bid has been reduced to $3750.00

Getting closer to reality?

he emailed me this morning, he said a bunch of people told him it wasnt a real GS and he lowered the price...good for a buyer i suppose....
i guess the 350 is freaking them out...and the fact they ran the battery cable to the passenger side..
-
Good luck getting it Mark. PM sent also.

Looking closely at the pictures left a few questions in my mind as to it being a real GS also.
So,... I decided to contact the seller and asked him one basic question.
"Is the frame boxed or open?"
His reply to me "boxed frame".
If someone were to build a clone '65 GS, I doubt that they would go to the headache to put a boxed frame under it and then jamb a 350 in it.
In short, it is a real GS in my opinion.

This auction is kinda funny , it's not often to watch a car on E bay start out high and watch the price go down . ( started at 4500.00 and now down to 3500.00 )

Just an opinion, but not enough interest, a few nay-sayers that it is a GS and the engine change.
Oh,... probably really wants it gone too.
Loren

The price has come down almost enough to cover the cost of shipping.
-
Interest may be low. Buying an old car that needs work requires a financial commitment that many are unable or unwilling to make. Plenty of abandoned or stalled projects out there.
-
I think people are scared about the invalidity of the GS option. I would bet that the car has the correct sway bar and other tell tales.....remember the steering shaft where it meets the gear box...etc. I don't see it being a clone as far as what Is pictured. It just depends on if someone wants to do an original car because the right parts add up fast. If it is anywhere near as decent as the pics look, it is a good start. Hopefully the seller gets a little interest from someone who knows the car. Dan
-
I agree that it's a GS. There is certainly a segment of the population that knows it's a real one but still no bids. Maybe marxjunk will get his project!
-
Well..I too, have been toying with purchasing this car... I have been emialing him via Ebay communications, and this seller is arrogant. I told him Buick never made a GranD sport... and to STOP calling it that... WHY would he post an ad, saying it 'WAS A REAL" then it "WAS A CLONE"... and now "ITS REAL AGAIN!"?? His description is misleading and confusing. I also told him he SHOULD REALLY RESEARCH WHAT HE IS SELLING BEFORE POSTING TOTALLY CONFUSING INFORMATION"...
He just called me an KNOW IT ALL...
I wished him GLWS.
He didnt know what GLWS means. :dontknow:
Still, could be a nice scoot for someone... Im out.
-
no i probably wont get it...he's spooked and probably wont offer it for a bit..or if he does who knows....i thought he was one of the nicest guys ive ever tried to deal with....nice responses...easy to talk to..i told him i never bought a car that far away and he helped every time i asked...so hes not a a jerk...he just got spooked..i even told him i needed an extra day or two to get the money together ( thought is was going to do 6 or 7 grand..not sit there at 3500) and he said "no problem..i will work with you"
i missed the end of the auction last night..i have been sick with a sore throat and a wicked cough..i took some meds and fell asleep on the couch..well..it knocked me out..i havent slept but an hour or two a night all week..and finding the car didnt help...i set the alarm on my phone and slept thru it. i woke up 10 or 15 minutes after the auction. I emailed him asked hi what his plans where and he was going to relist it...this morning i see he did and then stopped it...
i couldnt make my e-snipe log in..so i thought i would do it manually..and i slept right thru it
this morning he sent me a link to here
and a few emails from other people
I didnt give a flipping crap that it was a GS..it was exactly what i was looking for..and i would have done a frame off resto on that car.......oh well one thing i have is patience...theres always more cars and always more parts..something will pop up...
im surprised it didnt sell..i mean shocked..kinda tells me where the market is...what a deal it was in my mind
-
Well it must be just me then. I sometimes rub people the wrong way. Here is his last most recent reply and in quotes":
"becuse u are wong like i said dont listen to know it alls thats been doing buicks since 1971 then dont know what they are talking about its becuse i change the ad by buicks guys saying its not a gs when it is u are the one wrong think be for u say things have a nice day"
???? :dontknow:
Like I said, Im out.
-
The listing was pulled. Anyone want to fess up and tell us they bought it?? :alien:
Looked like a decent car that was worth the asking price.
-
Not me, I'm checking out another one though.
-
Did anyone look at the car?
