Title: 64/67 Skylark/GS windowfelts for wide chrome
Post by: gs spoken here on July 04, 2018, 03:21:50 PM
Has anyone bought/installed any reproduction ones? I am on the quest for a good set. While at the GS Nats, I purchased a set from Cars, and they drop shipped them from PUI. Not usable, many problems. I am going to contact Ames, and see who makes the one's they sell,  and go from there, major problem is the quarter window curve is to great and inner bead is chrome, should be black, the outer bead is flat not round, an no rubber under the outer bead like OEM. Thanks Bill.

Believe that Steele Rubber has the best ones. A bear to install.

65/5 inners are a bear, 66/7 are slightly better to install they attach to the inner door jam with ship in clips and not to the door panel. That being said, I am still on the hunt for the most correct ones I can find that will fit, will contact Steele and check them out, it appears the OEM ones Steele offer are not for wide chrome, only Repro, ones, but may be wrong. Thanks Dan for the input.

I bought these years ago. These are for a 64-65... No chrome on them. Inner and outer are black rubber. All the holes line up correctly on the wide moldings.

They are brand Fuzzi's Re-pop See photos for the part #

Chuck had good luck with the 'Catwhiskers' brand from Restoration Specialties.  He also mentioned the PUI brand could be ordered with black beads. More info here:

Thanks all for the info, I am on info overload with this. I am dealing with my 66 hardtop and it originally had NO belt chrome and had window felts with round chrome bead, on both inner and outer. I am wanting to convert to belt chrome and have the chrome but finding the felts is the problem, I have a 67 hardtop parts car that had the beltline chrome and the window felts were chrome outer and black inner, I am thinking 66 were the same. I could paint the outer black if I can find a set that fits. It appears Cars sells more then one brand, these are PUI and the invoice has different number that the Cars book and these are the same as another number listed on the invoice. Will call Cars. Major problem with these are the quarter window curve is wrong, and the inner chrome bead is flat not round.

In looking at Restoration Specialties they do not appear to list a set for 66/7 Hardtop with wide chrome.

I used the Steele rubber products outside seals (Front Door) and ordered a second set  of front door seals and adapted them for the rear windows, no one had the correct outer rubbers for the back windows (using the wide reveal trim).

I will try to find the part numbers that I ordered, John might remember....

I believe I used these on mine

https://www.ebay.com/itm/65-Skylark-Convertible-with-Special-Moldings-Window-Felt-Inner-Outer-8pc-Set/172795296884?epid=22006211447&hash=item283b66fc74:g:cS4AAOSw35lZeMxI (https://www.ebay.com/itm/65-Skylark-Convertible-with-Special-Moldings-Window-Felt-Inner-Outer-8pc-Set/172795296884?epid=22006211447&hash=item283b66fc74:g:cS4AAOSw35lZeMxI)

They have different part numbers for hardtop, coupe, and convertible, but they look and fit as they should. I believe the photo in their ad is a "stock" photo for any part number. Mine did not look anything like the photo and there should be no clips holding them on. They are stapled to the door panels and screwed to the doors and quarters on the outer chrome. The rubber itself should have no chrome on the outer trim and just a narrow bead on the interior trim. You will need to remove the door and quarter panels to do the job correctly.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Randy do you remember who the Mfg was for yours? I was thinking Steele sold Repops

schiepcar, do you remember the Mfg of the ones you used I cannot tell from the ebay post.

Sent Cars some pictures and they will evaluate and send to PUI and wiill see if they can suppy anything correct. Per Cars they only sell PUI currently.

Thanks Bill.

I do not believe that anyone except repops (like the ones in the photo above) are correct. When I bought  mine they were listed as Buick w/special moldings. They were packaged with two left rears and no right. I called the 800 number and a real person who spoke English sent me the missing right rear piece the next day. It was the best service I have seen in the aftermarket parts industry. They worked and fit excellent.

Can anyone tell me if the wide moldings have clips?  Or do they just screw to the door?

Thanks.

66/7 have a clip at the very front on the door.

I had Restoration Specialties make me a set of inner and outer fuzzies for my wide chrome 66 hardtop. So they have the pattern and can make them for 66/7 hardtop. I sent them a set for a pattern. The fit was good not perfect, the inner side window ones could have had slightly more up angle at the front. Remember these are reproductions but the best I have found. Thanks Bill.
