Title: '65 Gran Sport 3 Speed Shifter Rod
Post by: 1965GSDOUG on March 27, 2015, 02:01:48 PM
Can anyone help me with the 2nd/3rd Shifter Rod for a '65 Gran Sport 3 Speed Manual Trans?
It seems mine has grown wings & flew away! :crybaby2:
I would be willing to buy the complete shifter if need be.
Thanks,
Doug

Would the rods on a Hurst shifter from a 66 GS 3 speed be the same? I have some of those.

I am not sure about that as I don't have a Hurst Shifter to compare it to.
I can maybe post a Photo from the GS Repair Manual though.
Thanks for answering,
Doug
P.S. I think the '66 GS Shifter may bolt to the Cross member instead of directly to the Trans.

I looked up the part number in my '66 book
Group 4.035
Rod, transmission shift
1375885 (2-3)
1373907 (1-reverse)

It's listed for 1965-66.
The '74 parts book doesn't  show this number at all. It was discontinued in November 1973

1967 was 1378298

68-69 was 393045. Also listed for Olds F85 65-69. Might be worth following up on that one, should be more out there.

Hi Jim,

Could you post some pictures of those rods?  If Doug isn't interested I may be.

I have a Hurst Dual Pattern Syncro/loc I would like to use and I need to figure out the rods and how to mount it to the trans.

Thanks,

-Joe

Well, I found 2 of the shifters but only this one rod so far.

Walt,
Thanks for the Diagram & reply!!
My '65 Book shows it a bit different but none the less very similar.
Not sure if it correct or not but it shows the 2-3 Rod on the outside of the 1st-Reverse Rod but my '65 Book shows it crossing over to the inside.
I did check Part numbers in my '65 Chassis Parts Manual & it shows the 2-3 Shift as #1373908 which did change to #1375885 in 8/65.
BUT my '72 Parts Manual Illustration show it as #1376885 for 1966 Floor Shifters & no reference to '65 at all :dontknow:
The reason I asked for a good used Rod or Shifter was because I exhausted my search for NOS.
Hopefully someone can help!
Thanks,
Doug

Doug or Joe, does that look like a rod you can use?

I'll have to double check but I think I have the whole shifter setup.

JIM,
Sorry to say but that is not what I need.
Thanks,

If you have the complete Shifter I definitely would consider that even though I only need 1 Shift Rod.
There is nothing wrong with having an extra!
Thanks,
Doug

OK Doug I just checked the shed and I have a complete but crusty shifter with rods, levers, handle and knob.
