Title: Clutch Push Rod

I cleaned up my clutch push rod today and found that the Z-bar end is pretty severely worn.  So, looked for a replacement and found one at both CARS and The Parts Place.  Problem is they look different.  Pictures are attached.  Can any of you tell me from these pictures which one is correct?  I'm not sure about mine because the car was originally an automatic, so I can't be sure that the manual transmission parts in it are correct.

Chuck,
You have the right one and you are stuck with it unless someone has an extra. They are not reproduced and your best bet is to have it mig welded and ground back into shape. I have also seen them cut off and a grade 8 long 3/8 bolt welded in that spot and remachined. Yours is not that bad,so I would just weld it up and grind it back in shape.Dan

Chuck ,  mine is worn a little also along with the z bar . I just plan on welding mine up and machineing it round again .
especially as long as it took for me to find these parts .

Mine was badly worn and was welded up as others have noted. It was worn down better than half the diameter, yours looks pretty good.

Mine was the same too-welded it up and used a grinder to make it round again.  By the way, the end that is worn on yours is the clutch pedal end.  The hole in the pedal will be worn the same, so you will need to weld it up and re-drill it.

Another bit of advice: If you are thinking of bending an original to make t fit a little better, DON'T!
I tried to bend mine a bit and instead of bending, it broke in half! I couldn't believe it. Must be brittle due to a heat treatment.

If you have an oblong hole in your pedal, an option to welding is to drill the hole oversize and install a sleeve or bushing.

I think that is a good idea. If a bronze bushing were used, it would take the brunt of the wear and be replaceable. Also an easy item to find in a hardware store.
