Title: 65 hard top 4 speed restoration in Canton IL
Post by: jaredyocum on June 25, 2011, 02:12:33 PM
We are in the second year of this project with some light at the end of the tunnel finaly .Good thing too as I am running out of places to stash all the stuff I have bought for this car . Its the first time it's been off the frame since it was new . We have had to make 3 wheel well lips and hand fab both lower quarter panels and some of the upper tail light /trunk seal lip but its in the blocking stage now and feels good to the touch . I am in hopes it wil have paint on it in the next few weeks! I'll include a link to my album ,I add pictures all the time so check them out when ever you can !

I am not sue why ,but I noticed today as I was installing the body bushings and bolts that my car never had body bolts in the position just forward of the rear fender well. It had a rubber disk there only no bolt even though it had body nut . The kit I bought had no such pads so I installed a bushing and a bolt . I just can not think of a reason why they would have done that ?

I also ran across this on a 65 GS and a 65 special that had, adding the extra bolt and body mount wont hurt.

I just finally finished the exhaust! I could have taken it to an exhaust shop and had it done ,but I'm a do it yourself er and a pipe fitter from way back so I fabbed it from the headers back with 3inch aluminized pipe. The down pipes were not hard at all just a 6inch offset to run closer to the drive shaft into the muffler and then out of the mufflers and up over the axle and there  is where it became tricky . Each tail pile has 10 weld joints ! I just finished a college class in Tig welding so it was good practice and the results are really nice. I simply set my saw at 22 1/2 degrees and made each bend a Fabricated Gore elbow so at no point is the flow reduced . I realize my old Nailhead has done with much less most of its life but it looks great and the sound is very mellow as far as I can tell just firing it up for a few minuets at a time . I'll try and get some pictures of it soon !

I also scored a original Motorola re verb! I don't imagine this would seem like much of a victory to most ,but My car had a dealer installed Motorola re verb . The type that has the unit in the trunk and the control knob under the edge of the dash . It worked fine when I was a kid and then was forgoten after I got my Drivers licence in favor of some other higher power system that was not compatable. The mice and age had ruined the unit in the truck . I found one on eBay missing the control ( witch I still had under my dash) So I bought it ! I am amazed that no one makes any kind of old car re verb today ,at least None I have found. It had a really neat affect as if you were in a Huge concert hall. I'll probably wire it up to be a secondary speaker system so I can turn it on and off at will.
