It looks to be a very nice GS. I like the color combination. Low mileage and it also has upgraded braking system, etc. Has anyone else noticed that this Flint built GS has California closed circuit crankcase ventilation, the aircleaner with the ventilation hose to the valve cover. Not that this would be a criticism, but rather a curious observation. Hope this finds a good home.

I noticed that, but assumed that Flint also built cars for sale in CA as well as the Fremont, CA plant.  Is that the case?

Seller does state that the car was sold new in Pasadena, CA. A Flint car in CA ? Love all those option codes on the tag. Definitely a nice car. Wonder why John likes the color ?  :laughing7:

Brian,

I just assumed that the four individual assembly plants would ship to their regional area or zone to keep shipping costs down. But that would not prevent them from shipping to another area if that assembly plant was behind. Yet another mystery that probably will never have a definitive answer.

I have had other 65 Gran Sports with flint build codes with the closed system.  Maybe being a late built date might have a reason?  Or being a special order car, that is not from the dealer inventory......

Buickrestrr,

Your comments seem to be the most logical explanation. This particular GS was built the first week in May. Does anyone know when the assembly plants shut down to retool for the 1966 models?

Buickrestrr, are you the Ebay seller? Where and how does one find such clean, rust free, low mileage gems?

John,

The plant changeover wasn't until sometime in August. I think Walt's 65 is a late July, or even early August 65 build date. I have a good friend with a 63 Impala SS that was built 4th week of July at the LA plant.

Being a late built car, it is highly probable that it was built in Flint and went to a dealer somewhere else in the country other than CA and sat on the lot, then someone was looking for a car like that with those options, but it was too late in the year to order a new one, so the dealer in CA tracked one down, got it from another dealer, shipped it to CA, then added the CA emissions air cleaner so it could be sold there.

Yes, mine is a very late build, 08C= 3rd week of August, Baltimore plant.

Brian's explanation makes sense.... car was shipped from another dealer, and emission mod added.
I looked up the # of cars built with AC and was surprised to see it was 22% for all 4000 series Skylarks.

Yes I am the seller.  The car is owned by a customer.  I have done alot of work on it.   I just wanted to add one thing about being a Flint car sold in CA.  IN Jan of 1964 my parents ordered a Electra 225 conv.  here in Portland OR.  The car was built in Flint.   You would think that it would have come from CA.  Unless they did'nt  build those models in CA.................
