Does this look like a 65 GS clutch rod?
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:29:02 AM »

Please look at this rod and let me know if it looks correct for a 65 GS clutch rod.

That looks like it.  Only thing to double check is the length.  The one for a regular Skylark looks exactly like it, except it is about 1.5" longer.  They are hard to find, so if you found one, go on and get it, and if it turns out to be the longer one for a regular Skylark, it is easy to cut some length out of the middle and weld it back together.

I'll second what Brian said, it does look like it.
The one I have here is 12" long.
The Buick and Olds rods have the rubber bushing in the z-bar, so the end of this clutch rod is longer than a similar Chevelle rod.
I thought the Skylark/Special rods were the same, but I'll have to double-check the one on my Special. It came from a V6 car.

I actually broke one of these in half! I put it in a press to adjust it by about a half inch, and it snapped in half. I couldn't believe it. They must have hardened them at Buick.
I ended up making one from round stock. We'll see if if holds up.

Pulled the rod off my 65 wagon with a 300 and a three speed and compared them. The GS rod bends exactly the same as the wagon's rod, but the wagon rod is a couple of inches longer in the engine compartment. The GS rod doesn't currently have any coating or paint on it, the wagon rod was plated with what looks like zink.

Interesting. Now I wonder if I put the right one on my 300 Special :icon_scratch:

I see that CARS has the 64-66 upper clutch rod (small block) avail for $29.  pn CR-646  14-1/8" long.

Walt, I will measure mine for you after I return from a 4-5 day trip. I should be able to do the measurement early next week.
