'Necessity is the Mother of invention..
« on: June 23, 2024, 04:40:42 PM »
Hi everyone, Another super hot day here in NYC, It's 98 degrees with a real feel of over 100. I tried to work on the Silver GS but the heat & humidity got to me so I'm back in the house. Last week I took a few photos of a project I was working on,
For those of us that are the "do it yourselfers" in this hobby, using a spray gun is second nature. There is a small but annoying problem that I was having with my mini touch-up guns. Having to keep them upright while loading paint and keeping them upright during flash time. All the guns have a hook or a loop, but if you support the gun that way the paint cups are tilted and you have a mess to deal with, paint & reducer are very expensive and very dangerous to our health. So not making a big mess is good for everyone.
Last week I had the time to remedy this problem, so I put my brain on "think mode" ! That means getting a cold drink, loading the CD player with oldies, turning the fan on, and my phone off... 3 hours later the stand was made out of different types of scrap metal that people throw out on recycle day... I very rarely buy any metal for my projects when there is so much out there for free.
The following day I blasted and painted all the parts. Day 3 I put it all back together and took these photos.
The stand is fully adjustable and comes apart so I can store it in a box over the winter months. If anyone would like to make this stand let me know and I will post the dimension's. Don't forget to wear the proper PPE when working with all automotive paints.
