Was the inside of the OEM 2x4 air cleaner lid painted black?

I've had three 2X4 air cleaners and none of them were painted on the inside. I'm not even certain they had plating due to the fact all had surface rust.

They were probably just flash chromed, not triple plated. I’ve seen lots of Chev 409 2x4 air cleaners, valve covers and other specific chrome parts. All flash chromed, nickel plated only.
