exhaust heat riser valve ?

(1/2) > >>

35chevcoupe:
Hey all , what's everyone doing for the heat riser valve ?  Is there a company that rebuilds them ? Are most guys just welding up the butterfly shaft holes and using them as a spacer ?  My exhaust systems will be here in a couple days and was curious as to what everyone is doing .

schlepcar:
I think it is better to weld it but some are worn out to the point that they may leak around the shaft. If you have one that is not bad shape you might consider using a worn out one for welding shafts solid. They are hard to find in nice shape and easy to change if you had to. On the down side if it gets stuck mostly shut it can be a problem child. I have a small leak that I am hearing and that is likely my issue. I am pretty sure the riser is the same for non GS.

Jimbo:
I removed the shaft and butterfly and welded the 2 holes.

cwmcobra:
I left the shaft and just removed the butterfly.

The way we use our vehicles today the heat riser for the most part is a mute subject, not un-nessasery.
Just weld/grind/finish it up as nicely as you can & be done with it.
Just my thoughts on this subject.
