1965 Rear Axle Bearings - everything you need to know

(1/5) > >>

BuickGS65:
I wanted to post all the information I have about 1965 rear axle bearings, since there are differences among Skylark, Sportwagon & Gran Sport.

1965 GRAN SPORT & 64-65 SPORT WAGON BEARINGS
GM Part # 907717, 907690 or 391744
RW507AR (with retainer) or RW507A
Larger diameter than Skylark
No longer made(?) but harder to find at the very least!

1965 - 1967 SKYLARK
GM Part # 907664 or 907682
RW507C or RW507CR (with retainer)
Still made

1966 - 1968 GRAN SPORT & SPORTWAGON
GM Part # 907884
RW507G or RW507GR (with retainer)

Perhaps make a "sticky" thread?

65GSConv:
So if a rear axle bearing goes out on a 65 Gran Sport, there is no repair option for it?

There's a 'how-to' on Buicks.net. The GS/Sportwagon bearing has a larger OD than the 507C bearing....the article details how an adapter bushing was installed to fit the smaller OD 507C bearing into the larger GS/Sportwagon housing.

Some additional info....The 66-68 GS/Sportwagon used a RW507G bearing which has the RW507A bearings OD and also a larger ID for the bigger axles.
The 'R' suffix in the bearing # indicates it includes the press-on bearing retainer.
Finding the correct axle seal for these has been difficult in the past. Unsure what is currently available.

Loren At 65GS:
I just did a google search for the RW507 AR and came up with multiple sources.  It appears to be in production ? [ take note of "?" ]
One listing is from a company called MIBearings LLC in Traverse City, MI.  Their listing shows the manufacture as Timkin . Need to call for a price.

I don't know if these are American made or ?

Should a guy be buying a couple of these to have on hand just in case?
