Yes, Kevin it is a 12 point socket. I to have many tools that my Father made, "To get the job done" as he would say. Before he immigrated to NYC he was a Blacksmith by trade In Italy.  There were no Blacksmith jobs available when he arrived here so he went into the Automotive trade. But he did do small metalworking jobs for friends & family when asked.  That's when I was privileged to see him at his best and learned along the way...

Hey Tony... if that were a 4 or 8 point socket, I'd guess it was an old acetylene tank valve wrench from before the days of putting hand wheels on the tanks. Imagine having an acetylene fire and having to search for a wrench! Could possibly be a propane wrench as well. Just a thought...   Bill

My guess its for recessed bolts. Stick it down the hole (example hemi spark plug) break loose with wrench on top, spin out bolt with T-handle. I've used one very similar when I use to work on injection molding machines.

Got the first 2 trim pieces for the 66 GS polished and striped. I started with the smallest ones first.

Hey Jim those trim pieces look great. Did you buff them by hand or with a machine ?

Both. A friend did the harder parts with a machine. Since I am not working I have time for tedious tasks now. Hoping to get that car painted this year.

Interesting. My guess is that you screwed something down, head bolts?? Depending on the size of the socket end, with the T handle. Then, once snug attached a second took torque wrench? Breaker bar? To finish it off. Most likely a repetitive peice. Just a guess...

Hey Jim, Yes they came out very nice, doing the rest of them will take up the time that you now have, It's a slow process by hand but the results are very rewarding. Years ago I purchased a buffing machine thinking it was easy !! It was not .. It takes a lot of practice and you must wear face and chest protection to stay safe.  My friends come over and use it more than I do... :occasion14:

Hi Jerry, the socket end is only 3/8 12point, so whatever it tightened could not be torqued to tight.

My hardtop went to body shop jail on Friday, but when her release date comes, she'll be getting this '66 Chevelle 12-bolt as a welcome-home present! The differential shop didn't finish it until Thursday, so I didn't have time to put it in. It has 3.42:1 gears, a Yukon posi, a Strange 1350 yoke and a c-clip eliminator to make it a little more BOP & a little less Chevy.

The 8.2 that's in the hardtop now will get built for my convertible (I try to give them equal attention so nobody gets jealous). I don't think the Buick 350 in the 'vert will ever have enough power to break an 8.2, but it could use a posi and a better gear ratio.
