Glue a grille?
« on: April 23, 2025, 05:50:00 PM »
I just received a grille I bought from a guy in Southern California. It is the nicest I could hope to find, not perfect but really nice with almost no pitting. I have two questions now about grilles. This grille has a cracked vertical connector in the center right below the top horizontal rib. The crack is hard to detect as it is tight together. I could epoxy it, or just leave as is, I won’t be able to see it when installed, so I don’t want to glue unless I need to. Second question is; should I use flat black paint on the ribs?  As I recall the GS grilles were flat black from the factory. The Bucamino is going to be a one of none GS Bucamino. (actually one has already been built in the Midwest) I even have the correct glovebox door to make it a GS. Okay, I fibbed, another question. The grey along the bottom might need to be painted, any recommendations on color and paint type/brand? I won’t know if it needs painting until I finish polishing the whole grille.

The vertical crack is a common issue. As for repairing it, I defer to others.

The vertical connector on the backside of the grille is flat black on both Skylark & GS models.

The bottom smooth portion of the grille, along with the headlamp door fillers are silver on both the Skylark & GS.

As for the horizontal parts of the grille and headlamp doors, the GS was "blacked out," whereas the Skylark was silver.  Full details on paint here: https://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,5638.msg42392.html#msg42392
