Front seat interchange ...
« on: February 04, 2018, 09:00:52 AM »
I'm thinking I may prefer a bench seat rather than buckets in my 65 Skylark.

Would I be looking for  64/65 seat or would the 66/67 also fit?

Did these cars ever come with an arm rest bench seat?

I want the car to resemble 1965 inside but with some tasteful "upgrades".

I would think that the '66-'67 bench seat is about the same overall dimensions as the '64-'65 seat.  The '64-'65 A body did not have an arm rest in it.  If I recall correctly, the '66 did.

I'm sure some one like Walt would have a better idea of this.

Gary,

I have a front bench seat from a 65 Skylark.  It would obviously need to be reupholstered, etc.  Doesn't have an arm rest though.....

64 to 66 the frames are the same, 67 gets a seat back lock but the frames are similar the seats where continuously modified and update as the cars progressed for crash standards etc..

66 and 67 have diff padding, but underneath they are very close

Yes, 66 had a fold down arm rest on the 'notch back' bench seat in Skylark and GS, but not on the Special.
Headrests and shoulder belts also became avail in 1966.

Hi,

I have a 66 bench with arm rest, needs to be redone, and would need seat tracks, but one from a bucket can be made to work, I am 50 miles north of Detroit

Regards,
Jim

Regards,

The 65 bench seat that I have has tracks.  I assume they could be used with Jim's 66 seat, if desired.

I don't recall the body style Gary has. If it is a two door body, he will need a split back style seat so people can gain access to the rear seat.
He will also need the correct tracks .  A bench seat has a wire that connects both tracks to operate the lock on the tracks.

very common for 66s and 67s to have split bench seats with a fold down arm rest, and 2 doors seats fold for rear access...4 door seats do not fold

yes you can swap tracks around
