Dear mid-60s Buick car folks,

The writers of the Hemmings blog got lazy over the 4th of July weekend and instead of writing something thoughtful, they posted links to this 30 year old PBS documentary that is now on YouTube.

The documentary is around 50 minutes long and I suppose the longest videos that can be posted on YouTube are 45 minutes long, so the show is in two installments.

I finally got around to viewing it last night and I'm sure glad I didn't watch it over the 4th.  The PBS station that made it was in South Bend, Indiana where Studebaker was located for over 100 years.  The documentary was attempting to make sense of the demise of Studebaker on the then 20th anniversary of the event.  There is a bit of PBS style politician correctness so viewer discretion is required.  But ultimately, it is a real-life tragedy without any reasonable explanation or honest blame.  Studebaker was a justifiably proud company with a long history.  It is truly unfortunate that such a company couldn't survive.   It is very much worth seeing, but do expect to feel sad at the end.
