Sanden A/C compressor bracket for da' Nailhead?
« on: July 31, 2017, 03:42:26 PM »
Dear mid-60 Buick fans of da' good ol' Nailhead!

There is a listing on eBay for a reproduction bracket for 1962-66 401-425 Buick Nailhead engines:

It is another new part being manufactured by Russell Martin's Centerville Auto Repair in the California Sierra foothills.  It is described as using (and I quote . . . ) "It uses the new style small compressor and Delco alternator."  That is a little vague and the photos aren't clear, but it does seem like the Sanden compressor that is used on all aftermarket auto air conditioner kits.  On the Centerville Auto Repair website, they have some other brackets as well:

No kiddin' this isn't the sort of thing to consider if you are trying to do a really original restoration.  However, Russell Martin has used the Nailhead engines in true hot rods so that the issue wouldn't be originality, but getting any sort of A/C into the car!  Anyone who isn't planning on a really original 1965 GS, could consider this bracket and go with the same sort of Vintage Air system that is in my trusty wagon.  Until now, there was no bracket to put the Sanden compressor on a Nailhead engine - now there is!  Even if it isn't your cup of tea, additional parts choices are always a good thing!  :sunny:
