Shifter Plate differences....?
« on: April 25, 2015, 12:18:37 PM »
Guys...I have 3 ~ 2 speed shifter plates for 65-66 auto floor consoles.  Two plates/gear selector indicators are identical as seen on the right side... and the one on the left, has the shift pattern considerable separated... take a look.
QUESTION IS... WHY? and WHICH APPLICATION used WHAT?

Help me out here...

THANX!

Dear Wheelz and mid-60s Buick victims of my humor . . . . .

. . .  It is ever so simple  The one with the indicator to the left was for Democrats and the one with the shifter to the right is for Republicans!!. . . .

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

P.S. Yeah, I know. . . . . With friends like this you don't need any enemies!! . . .

I want to say the one on the left is correct for the 65,but I am not sure the one on the right is original. It looks strange like someone may have changed it. Does anybody have one that looks that way?

The one on the right has the letters very close together that's very strange !!! if it came from a big series Buick it should have low 1&2, or maybe it came from another GM division that used the same shifter plate but different console ??? that's my theory....   Tony

From what I have been able to figure out, the one on the left, with the L at the bottom is a 64/6. The one on the right with the L up higher is a 67. Remember 67 has a different shifter, I call it a pocket shifter, this was used to clear the T400, but used on T 300 also. I currently have a 65 GS with the original shifter in it and it is like the one on the left, L at the bottom. I also  had a 66 and it was like the 65. I have complete 67 shifter/console that I am going to sell and it is like the other one.

v e r r y i n t e r e s t i n g observation..  so what you are saying Walt is, 67 400 cars had the 3 speed shifters unless it was a 340/2 speed equipped car?  Yes?  No?
Either way, these are both original shifters with original shift indicator acrylic inserts...
So this would be interesting to figger out if the plate on the right is indeed perhaps for a 67 Skylark? I agree that these dont appear to be 65-66 as the letters are spaced to far apart...

Well, Bill said it, but I was thinking the same thing!
'67 GS400 had the 3 speed auto with a much different shifter
'67 300 and 340 cars had the 2 speed auto, shifter is like the 65-66 (Edit-see next post). There was a Sportwagon option with a 340 and 3 speed auto, but I don't know if bucket seats/console were optional.

There was a guy on v8 repo'ing the '67 3 speed lens.

The 67 shifter I have came out of a 2 speed 300 car. I took it out years ago and it was the same shifter as the 67 400 shifter except it has the 2 speed shift lens.

Another way to tell the two shift plates is 67 had 2 holes for lamps and 64/6 had one.
