Dear mid-60s Buick "car guys,"

While "pickup cars" aren't the sort of vehicle that normally has anything to do with this forum, still car guys will be car guys.  The Hagerty's email newsletter had an interesting article on these unique vehicles:

Nothing earth-shattering, but there are definitely a few surprises in this write-up.

For your information and amusement.

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Nice story. El Camino's are fun and of course there much faster than coupes and convertibles. And, they are true sports cars, as we know real sports cars only seat two.
I've had mine for 36 years, it's an original W code, 454 M22 AC car/truck; probably fewer than 300 built. I've built the engine up some, it dynoed at 530 HP and replaced the M22 with a 5 speed. The original M22 is on a shelf in an auto gear case while the original case is now a light fixture hanging on the wall in my garage.
There are several misconceptions about El Caminos. Guys think the Elky is to light in the backend. Fact is, when compared to an equally equipped coupe or convertible the Elky has about 50 more pounds over the rear axle.
They are a lot of fun however, they are terribly impractical if not used as a pickup.

. . . . Really?  I thought two seats weren't for speed so much as . . . . romance!   :love4: . . . . .  :overthetop:
