Ha! I bought some spares on ebay and hung one on my dr wall as a piece of art.
Nice to see yours has a functional purpose too!
... it would look incredible with some neon. It needs a '12', '3', '6', and '9' in the openings, and maybe a ring or two of neon.

Dear Loren Walt, and mid-60s Buick visitors down memory lane

Here's an idea for those pesky hubcaps and something to complete the ensemble.

Well, if you insist on reminding me of things . . . . .

My trusty wagon kept her original "dog-dish" hubcaps until 2010.  At least one of them got smashed really badly because someone (I don't remember who) backed the car a little to close to the wall of the garage, and my Dad (being the packrat that he was) had stored some wood for there (whatever the emergency.)  If I recall correctly, I 2"x4" did a real number of the rear-passenger side hubcap.

Dad, being the trooper that he was, did the best he could as a metal worker to pound out the damage, but it was never the same.

When I was in San Diego around 2000, I had a great service shop from the dealership Seaside Buick which was a bit south of La Jolla UTC were I lived.  Alas they goofed on one service and when I was heading to a conference in Los Angeles, the a hub cap flew off.

I wasn't a hard core classic car caregiver at the time, but nonetheless, I didn't like my wagon without a hubcap.  After a bit of searching, I found a little shop in a seedy part of San Diego called "Hubcap Annie"  I asked if they might have the 1965 Buick Special hubcaps and not only they had one replacement but I picked up a spare or two.

Then a disaster befell my trusty wagon as Orinda Motors upgraded her to disc brakes in 2010.  When she has been stolen in 1986, her spare tire was stolen and we didn't recover it.  At the time we asked the repair shop to get another wheel so we had a spare tire once more.  They provided another wheel and away we went.  Of course as the tires were rotated, the spare wheel ended up being used and an active tire became the spare.  When Orinda Motors checked the clearance for the disc brakes, they grabbed 1 wheel and sure enough everything was fine - it was the spare and had 1" additional clearance compared to the factory Buick wheels.  The remaining wheels couldn't fit the disc brakes!  :BangHead:

So I had a choice between rummaged up some other steel wheels or have Orinda Motors order some Buick "Rallye" wheels . . . . .

The rest is history!   :laughing7:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

P.S. Well not quite.  I did save at least one of the original dog-dish hubcaps for "old times sake."  Given what they had gone through, I don't think I could turn them into a clock though!

Love it!  I've got four of those hubcaps that came with my parts car.  Great idea.  Thanks Loren!

Good idea Loren!   Noticed your framed poster of "GS Gus" in the background.  I have one of those I will give to whoever wants it for the cost of mailing it in a tube. I had it hanging in my garage where I used to live, so it has some wear on it, but still in good condition.  It is not of framing quality like Loren's but would be great to tack up on the wall in the garage.  I have no where to put it in my current garage.

PM me your address Jim if you are still interested in the Poster.  I understand if you want one of the new ones instead!  Didn't realize they were still available.
