Saw that also and you are correct. It is NOT for a '65 Skylark or GS.

Yes, that is a '65 hood ornament. It has a broken mounting stud though.

Base should look like the attached picture.

WOW!! That's a crazy price for an original hood ornament. I really need to find the complete one I have stashed away.

Just lack of supply and continued demand. (Re: Hood Ornament)

Dear Mister T and fans of beautiful 1965 Buicks,

WOW!! That's a crazy price for an original hood ornament. I really need to find the complete one I have stashed away.

Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing crazy about these prices whatsoever,  It is purely the market forces of supply and demand.  The hood ornament is a relatively small part, but as my friend described it, it is "the crown jewels" of a car of the period.  Especially for a 1965 Buick, it is extremely important because it is the only Tri-Shield on the front of car.  For a wagon it is the only Tri-Shield.

So for anyone who really wants a beautiful and correct 1965, a good looking Tri-Shield hood ornament is absolutely essential.  Anyone restoring one of these cars should be prepared to pay what it costs to restore or manufacture a ornament of that quality.  I just wish some outfit would do the market research and conclude a quality piece can be produced and sold at a sufficient profit to make it a reasonable business proposition.

Cheers, Edouard
