Dear Jim and mid-60s Buick "keeping up with the times" types . . . .

I need to get some seat belt extensions so I can take the grandkids in the '65.

. . . Oh for shame!  Are you proposing to molest your 1965 Buick with rear seat belts!?? . . . .

My Dad started the process of "mods" on my trusty wagon by installing a pair of generic seat belts that were chrome with blue webbing sometime in the early 1970s.  So us kids in the back were as safe as the adults in the front (which wasn't that much since these were only lap belts front and rear.)  Alas, those generic belts didn't exactly fit too well in the green interior of my trusty wagon.

The front seat belts were still in very good shape in 2010 when I had the seats reupholstered. I found at OPGI some retractable seat belts that looked similar to the black belts that came with a Special in 1965, so I had those put in the front.  I had the former front belts relocated to the rear seats so that the generic belts could be given da' boot!   So at last, my trusty wagon has genuine Fisher body seat belts front and rear!

All I did was to replace the Fisher body emblem on the buckles.  I sure wish everything aged so well after 50 years!

So there is some food for thought in your project to make sure the grandkids are safely buckled in . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
