Took Steve's car to its first car show today
« on: September 07, 2015, 08:08:05 PM »
Steve's car made its "Maiden Show" today.  About 100 cars at our church, the show run by the Boy Scout troop that we sponsor.  It was a fun day and I was happy to finally get the car out into the public.  It got a lot of looks and generated a good amount of conversation.

I finished the underhood refresh and am happy with the results.  Now I need to get the convertible top mechanism working and it will be fully functional.

Now, back onto my 4-speed restoration.  The body should be going to the blaster in a couple of weeks.

Happy Labor Day to all!

Looks like it went to a good home. The car looks great, especially when you park it next to a non Buick....We went to the U.P.  to a show in Nahma. I have been working on my Buick, but was not even close to driving it. ......Dan

Oops.....there was another Buick parked on the other side.  A 1962 Invicta survivor.  The car needed a lot of work, but the 401 sounded mean!

There was only one at the Nahma show. I did not get a picture of it. It was an original 54 with fairly low miles on the 322 nailhead. They said turnout was lower this year but I have never been there before. It is a really cool town that was featured on American Pickers.

Thanks guys.  I'd like to get more serious about shows next year and plan to get a board printed that pays proper homage to the history of the car and it's owners.  I think that would not only respect Steve and his passion for these cars, but also generate more interest for those at the shows.

I'll have to work up a design and will share when I get it ready to print.  I might even ask for inputs!   :icon_thumright:

Thanks again for the kudos, guys!  What you don't see in the pictures is the crazing in the old lacquer paint, some less than professional touch-ups, chips, nicks, etc.  However, that 'patina' adds to the aura for me and I can say that the shine on the paint was there when I bought it.  I polished the chrome, but not the paint.  I bought a paint pen and want to fill in a few chips to at least make the color consistent.  Then I'll give it a healthy coat of Carnauba wax.  Steve and family can be commended for taking very good care of the car, even though it was not driven much in recent years!

It's great that this car has found a caretaker that won't have it end up in a collection not to be seen.
