Rear wheel opening patch panel for 65 GS off other brand?
« on: March 05, 2015, 02:52:28 PM »
On my 65 GS, I need a 2-3in wide strip to repair all around my rear wheel opening.
Not found Quarters or Patch Panels available for 64/5 Skylarks
Anyone found anything close that will work?
Thanks for any help

Another option is to use the wheelwell lip cut from a front fender. Not a perfect match tho.

I still have a rear clip sitting by my shop that I'll let go for $600, where you located?

I just purchased the above alfaparts quater patches from wolf steel and they are pretty bad. made to resemble the parts but no where near a match. FYI

Thanks for all the suggestions & offers
Don't need quarters or whole rear clip - just the lip around the wheel opening
thought there might be something offered for a Furd or MoParts - anything that looks similar
Gotta be something useable - I may make a template of the opening & take to next car show
Any other ideas?

This photo shows the use of a front fender for a section of the rear opening.   I believe that it cannot be seen today on the finished car but I think this only works if sections of the rear opening are bad rather than the entire opening.    This photo happens to show the piece spliced in and the location where it was taken from on the front fender.  Hope this is useful.

I own '65 GS #19 in the database. Chris' old car. Someone rolled the lips during the drag racing era (a somewhat common mod), and I wanted to re-do them back to some semblance of stock. Because the rear portion lower part is intact and in good shape, I just needed the halo from in front of the wheel opening to about 2 oclock. I decided after checking as you did to go with 64-65 Chevelle patch panels. When I got 'em I was pleasantly surprised at how usable and how close they are to the GS. I'm not looking to build a 100 point original piece, but a good solid protouring rod. Check them out on ebay, they may be something you can use too. I just got them last month, so haven't installed them, but will do a thread when I do.

I was wondering about that radius of the CHEVELLE pieces too. It does not seem to be a good idea to cut it apart any larger than necessary. I have taken some straight wheel well trim and literally made the wolf panels fit the trim. They are a lot better start than nothing, but it takes a little welding and tapping. There was also a guy in eastern Tennessee that was selling buick patch panels on eBay.
