TAIL LIGHT SOCKETS
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:09:30 AM »
When putting the convertible together found a couple of bad tail light sockets. Anybody have a tail light / trunk wiring harness they can part with ? Or just the sockets with pig tails ? Thanks.

Dan,

I replaced the entire rear wiring harness last year and I have no regrets since.  Between the 50 year old sockets, connectors and wiring, updating this made perfect sense to me and I've had trouble free brake and tail lights since.

I ordered my harness through one of the catalog companies (OPGI, Year One, Parts Place) but I can't remember which one.  There was a little delay on getting it since they are custom made and I think the recession hurt the supplier pretty badly.  The quality was perfect and everything was an exact replacement.  I figure that the little extra money for the entire harness was well worth avoiding all of the solder and tape joints that might have been associated with just replacing parts of the harness.

Chris,

Do you recall if the sockets were the same gray as original ? Did it come with the accessory trunk light ?

Dan, most of the Repos are done in black sockets ( different plastic to?) and some are not wrapped in the cloth style tape ( I have used hockey tape to rewrap repairs) the trunk light is separate piece. I have used mostly harnesses made by M&H out off California , you can buy direct or from parts houses! By the way that convert is looking awsome! I have some taillight harnesses in the parts stash for parts! Jon

Dan,

I finally found a moment tonight to pop the trunk and take a look another look at the reproduction harness.  As Jon said before, mine is also the black version which isn't "factory correct" but they work flawlessly which is most important to me.

Here are a couple pictures.

Chris,

Thanks for taking the time to check. Asked M & H and Lectric Limited and both said they would be black or white - no gray. Based on that Jon is sending some of his stash.
