Grill Emblems

The 1965 1/2 Skylark Gran Sport is unique in a number of ways. One interesting feature is that it came off the assembly line with one of two different styles of grille emblems.

The early version (Square Style) was a smaller, long rectangular design featuring a chrome background with red lettering.

This style appears on some of the original models built in the first few weeks of 1965.

An illustration of this emblem can be seen in the Supplementary Skylark Gran Sport Service Manual figure 12-1.

The second version (Script Style) is more prevalent and is the same style as found on the deck lid, sail panels or — in the case of convertibles — on the rear quarter panels.

Here are photos of the two versions:

The Skylark Gran Sport Registry is attempting to gather information from the current registrations to determine when the change occurred.

The firewall trim tag information that owners submit to the Registry contains the date and location of the car’s assembly.

Your cooperation in including this bit of information on your registration form is greatly appreciated.
