Does anyone have some good pictures of the rally stripes that were available to the dealers ? It was a promo thing that came out from Buick the end of March '65.

Loren,

I think I have some picures somewhere (might have got them from Mark, John or Dan).

I'll dig around and see if I can find them.

Are you thinking of replicating them for one of your cars?  They sure would be cool, I've never actually seen them on a actual car before, just those dealer pictures.

I think this car would've had them because if I remember right, that door decal was part of the package.  In this picture it's too bad that you can't really tell if they're there or not.

Loren,

I have a copy of a GM promo showing the stripes that I got from Steve Shuman. Not great quality, but you can see them. Also check this link:

http://www.442bro.com/

Look at the "Resto Tips" and "Rare Parts" sections.

Mark,

That's a much better view then what I have. I have a xerox copy of the 2 page notice that was sent to the dealers dated March 31, 1965. Also something from Shuman's collection. Found a set of originals , to copy, for the door shield .

Chris,

Yes, I am kicking that idea around. Got this tudor sedan that was originally a white /white with a red interior.

Just a brain fart at this time, would definately be very different. Kinda fits me, I think.

As I remember,,,, the stripes came on in 66-67 years..... almost all manufacturers had a version....  the skylarks had 2 wide stripes down the center on each side of the wind split..... about 8 in. apart going all the way to the trunk trailing edge... The stripes were about 8 in. wide and of a contrasting color.....
Nascar had the requirement that any rookie that was in a race had to have them .... at the time.

Here is a picture of a 65 GS two door sedan with a rally stripe that I took back in 1980.  I may have measurments of the placement of the stripes, I'll have to look for them.

Thanks for the pic Stark!
That's a nice addition to documenting the history of the 65 GS.

Thanks to all you guys, for the input.
It will be a bit of time before I'm ready to do the next '65, but some ideas are starting to take shape.
