heater hoses
« on: October 22, 2018, 11:21:44 PM »
First question: Were heater hoses going to the heater core secured with single wire constant tension clamps, or the band style (constant tension)

Next question: Was it original to have the supply to the heater core a red color, or were they both black? And, how were they secured? My supply line was resting on a valve cover and finally burned through.

The hoses were both black.  Originally, they were molded hoses shaped so they would not rub on the valve cover, but those are non-existent now.  Mark Ascher has more info on the molded hoses--he actually has one of them, but he has been looking for the other one for over 20 years with no success.

There are corvette heater hoses that get you very close to original.  If you search the forum a part number should be available.  seems to me it was 68-82 vette with air conditioning.

Think so. All you want is the molded angle and sizes.

They would be for no AC. My car has one original moulded hose, and an off the shelf moulded hose that was the closest that could be found that would work - found by Brian. I recall it is a Ford hose. I also included a pic of Rob's engine, the hoses on  it are just parts store bulk hose, but can be made to look passable with minimal effort. There needs to be an "S" bend on the firewall end for them to fit well. The front side is not critical.

I have the original part number for the larger heater hose, but have never found one.

Good stuff guys. I did find out the hard way about hoses resting on the valve cover so I'll make sure that's corrected.
I do believe the single wire spring clamp is the original as I found it lodged between the heater core & firewall. Also found out the hard way there about crappy worm gear clamps.

Brain - any insight on this Ford hose?  Thanks!

I checked at my hardware store and they do not have spring clamps.
Are these available at auto stores? I'd fear asking for something like that at autozone/oreilly. Napa or carquest?

Those clamps will have to be ordered from one of the catalogers. All the big resellers have them, Year One etc.

Dan, I?ll see if I can scrounge the part number of the hose.

Right. I found the correct clamps at classic muscle. Some used original Corbin (that's the name of the spring clamp) pliers on ebay. See how this goes.

Alright, I'm confused lol.
What is the best part number for Eckler's?
And the hoses of the same for us Buick folks regardless if a/c or non a/c, right?
Thanks!
