New question!  My "Gen" light won't turn off.  I just put a new battery cable on it and the battery is new also.  I really don't have any measurement meters, is there anything I can do to troubleshoot the generator/alternator?

Blueaggie,

My friends 66 GS's generator light stayed on while the engine was running. He replaced the voltage regulator with his old rusty original one and it solved the problem. Apparently his new shiny reproduction voltage regulator was defective. That would be my first suspect.

However you can get trouble shooting information in your Chassis Service Manual in section 10-18 and 10-19.  If you do not have this manual, go to the Electronic Garage on this website, Chassis Service Manual, and see pages 440 and 441 (10-18 and 10-19 are there). This should explain the steps to help you diagnose your generator light problem.  Good luck.
