likelyhood of success? Chrome window trim removal
« on: May 04, 2011, 03:02:44 PM »
I have the chrome window trim removal tool and a post sedan with perfect chrome trim, what is the likelyhood that I will get the trim off without ruining it? Any hints appreciated. BTW, I don't mind ruining the windshield, but I plan to reuse the back window.

Kurt,

Success is likely - if you go slowly and carefully! Tape up the trim first with some 1/2 inch tape.
The trim is just held on by the edge, and the clip grabs it. You need to bend the clip in slightly to get the trim to release. Sometimes a "pulling" action will work, others need a "lever" action. You just have to feel it out as you go. That's my experience anyway.

Most damage I've seen is from a gorilla pounding the trim back on, not in the removal.

Thanks Mark, I have removed a few pieces in the past and had good luck, just worried about that nice looking trim. I guess I should practice installation and not just removal.  :icon_thumright:
