Larger Wheels?
« on: March 30, 2010, 05:46:03 AM »
This question might have been done to death but I can't find anything about it. Does anyone know what the largest wheels I can put on a stock height 65 Skylark without modifications? So far I'm told 17x7 with 215X?X17's for the front and back 17X8 with 245X?X17's. Does anyone know as I would hate to order a set and be stuck with them. Thanks in advance!

I have 245/45/17's on 17 X 8 on the front,,,and 255/50/17's on 17 X 8" on the rear!!!
Used a 5" bs on the rims,,,although I couldve used a 4.75 bs on the rear,,,but wanted to keep all rims the same!!!
My car is lowered,,,and the front wheels do rub a bit,,,(I haven't had it on the road yet,,hope to in the next few months). I have taken the bolt thats at the top inside lip of the inner fender off to see if that will help,,,but tried it since I took the bolt out!!!

Custum, I'd be surprised if they do not rub, but I've been surprised before. I tried 235/50s on my fronts with 17 x 7s and 4" backspacing and they rubbed - even with the bolt out. Your 5" backspacing should make yours just a bit wider than mine. Should look sweet though.

I went with the polished Coy's Series A rims.  I really debated polished vs. chrome but decided the polished would look better with the white paint.  They ended up being about $75 cheaper per rim also not plated.

Rear Rims - 18" - 7" - 4.25 back space       General Tires P235 50
Front Rims - 17" - 7" - 4.25 back space      General Tires P225 50

The rear should sit about 1" higher than the front.

Bought direct from Coy's website $1450 total cost (shipping, mounting, balancing, lug nuts)

Here's a picture of mine. 17"x8" Cragar Elimintors- 4 1/2" backspace. Tires are 245 45 17. No issues at all & I think they look great.
