401 aftermarket A/C brakets

I am looking at buying a heat A/C kit from Southern Rods and Parts . The offer a Nailhead braket kit from AlenGrove however I think it relocates the alternator high on the Drivers side and the compressor high on the pass side. I really dont want them to sit so high up. I saw a aftermarket setup on a Black 65 GS here on thr website and  just wandered if any one had any info on just such a braket set. Thanks

Jared,

If this is the engine bay then the owner is not a computer user. I believe the installation does use a stock AC bracket and a Sanden compressor with the hoses mounted down low. Many other board members have seen the car.
Always nice to see another 65 GS being restored.

Jared, if I could make a suggestion I would use classic auto air in tampa fl. That's who I used for mine, the fellow to talk to is Ron Mineo. If you can get an original alt, air bracket you can mount an 505 sanden on it using all the original mounting bolts and holes. You can make a seperate adjusting bracket for the compressor and then you can adjust all the belts individually. Will try to post pics later tonight of mine.

Here's some pics of mine Jared and a pic of an original bracket you will need. You do not need to alter the original bracket just make two additional brackets. I like the fact that there is a lot more belt wrap this way than the original where you have two belts adjusted with the alt.

That is one very sweet install. It kept the top of the engine nice and clean. And in the interior, there is no sign it exists. Roger really did an excellent job.

That upper radiator hose outlet also looks diffrent than mine ,I wander if he modified that too? I also wander about pullys?

Jared,

Good point to bring up if you are considering adding AC to a non AC car. Yes, the top radiator inlet tube for a GS with AC turns at an angle to avoid the AC compresser. A non AC GS would have the inlet tube coming straight out.  You are also correct, the pulleys would have to be from an AC car. I would assume that the compresser pulleys would come with an aftermarket unit, but you may need to find an AC pulley for the crankshaft.

Yep I am headed to the junk yard soon to find a original braket and the pulleys . I am not sure yet what to do with that top hose outlet. I may be able to tig an elbow on to it I suppose.

You can't tig weld brass.  You can take the radiator to a radiator shop and they can change it to a 90 deg. elbow for you.  The straig connection can be un-soldered from the top tank and an elbow soldered in its place.  Or you could hunt around for someone that has a factory AC radiator that has a bad core and have that whole tank swapped onto your radiator.  That is easy work for a radiator shop.

One other thing to remember - AC radiators are four core units.

I did not know that thanks, I had mine original recored about 2 years ago and upgraded to a 4 core. I just wish I had known I needed a diffrent neck then Id have had it done. I'l just take it to a shop I guess and have it changed.

You know the more I think about it ,I will have to look and see for sure but I think my top hose is on the Drivers side . as well as the lower hose.

They can't both be on the same side with a cross-flow radiator--the coolant wouldn't flow through the core.
