Electrical Short
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:43:24 PM »
I've got an interior light that always stays on in my 65 Convertible.

The LR Armrest/Inner Qtr lamp always stays on, even with all the doors closed. It doesnt matter whether the key is proividing power or not. Both dash lamps, console lamp and the RR armrest lamp all respond to the door jamb switches.

I tested the terminals in the socket. With the door closed, they both have 12 volts. If I open the door, the white wire drops to 1 volt.

I tested the good RR socket - both terminals had 12 volts door closed too

I believe the socket is gronded though the housing. Are both terminals supposed to have 12 volts door closed? I cant figure out what the thing is supposed to look like at rest....

Thanks, Rhett

Just tested - both terminals ALSO have continuity to ground with the battery disconnected. Does anyone know where the connector is for this harness to the main harness?

Thanks again  - Rhett

I pulled that whole harness out of the car, checked it inch for inch and what did I find? A freakin shorted 190 bulb... never seen one before in my life, didnt know it could happen. It was grounding itself against the housing. Go figure.
