66 GS
« on: December 08, 2016, 03:04:30 PM »
Nice looking paint, interior and top combination on this Ebay 66 GS.  It is listed as a rare GS 340, but we all know those were not available in 66.  It has the 66 GS trim and vin.  I see the big frame underneath, but all the convertibles had that anyway.  It would be nice with a 401 and the AC back at home if i didn't already have a 66 project collecting dust.

Thanks for posting. They have been trying to sell that one for quite a while, if it's still the same owners. Probably would be gone if it still had the 401.

Yes, it's a nice looking car!
It's been on eBay a few times recently, and from different states. First was the Washington, DC area, then Florida ( I think he moved), and now it's in S Carolina.
The present owner has only had it for about 6 months.
One of the auctions had a link to it's repaint video on YouTube. FR fender was repaired and the paint job was more of a scuff n shoot. Video has been taken down.
Also mentioned was the frame repair done on the drivers side with a big piece of metal. In previous auctions you could see it hanging down under the drivers door!
Might still be a good car, but needs to be inspected in-person.

No way it is worth 10K in disrepair with the wrong motor.  I think the color scheme is sharp, and it is one never envisioned. It drove home in particular that I have one of these up in the pole barn waiting for me to get the 65 done and my "crap" together!   My interior has been redone in dove already and I was thinking metal-flake burgundy with the convertible top in black canvas.

No way it is worth 10K in disrepair with the wrong motor.

Previous reserves have been 12-13k. If all it needed was an engine/trans swap to make it 'right', it would be a good value if the swap could be done for a few k.
But as always, there may be other problems that may not be seen in online pictures.
I like the color combo, a light interior makes sense.  Anytime I see a convertible with a black interior, all I think is how hot those seats are going to get on a sunny day!

Unfortunately, we have seen nice numbers matching 65s go for 9-10K right here recently.  IMO: a vert needing all of the specialty GS parts (other then trim) and being without the original drive train does not add up to that.

Bidding topped out at $10,700 and did not meet the $12,500 reserve.
This car may be doomed to an eternity on eBay, forever searching for a caring home.... poor thing.  :crybaby2:
Might be a different story come springtime.

It's still a great looking, driveable, air-conditioned A-body convertible.
Without an in-person inspection, I'm certainly not going to say it's a good car. It does have some issues. I just noticed the door panels are not originals but poor copies, so add that to the list.
Sure, it may not be 'the car' for a Buick enthusiast due to the incorrect items, but it might be a decent buy for the casual enthusiast just looking for a classic vert.

For comparison....
Another '66 GS air-conditioned convertible sold last month for $9300. This one would appeal to even the most discriminating Buick enthusiast!
Looks like a very-original car, probably even original paint. That pinstriping looks original.
It's been off the road for some time and needs the driving systems (brakes, steering, trans, etc) gone through.
I think those are 'vintage' Firestone bias-ply tires!!
Body is banged up here and there. But what you see is what you get, whereas the silver car could be a 'pig with lipstick'.
I would certainly take this car over the silver one. But it may not be for the casual person, as it needs a lot to make it even a weekend driver.

I liked the red one better too Walt escpecially the A/C and the AM/FM radio, those are hard to find. I used to have red 66 GS convertible so was watching that one. But for me to buy a projects doesn't make sense as I still have the 4 speed AC convertible I'm working on. I just need to get that done. Still, fun to look.

Also, like the red one.  It is the same as mine with a white top instead of black. Mine was also originally a bench seat that was converted to buckets at some point.  The gray one was also missing the ac compressor and had loose lines in the engine bay. That is an indication of a substandard conversion to me. What else was done half a**?

Look at the other engine pic, and the compressor is there! The description in one of the auctions did say the AC was repaired and working.
Agree that some work on the car was done incorrectly. Some is obvious, other items could be hiding.

Jim, are you redoing your blue 66?

Still speaks to shoddiness with some pictures with and others without. Then there is the cheesy description as a "rare 66 GS 340. All these things leave me vary wary of this seller and the car.  I still like the color combos though.

One of the recent owners (past 6 months) had posted on V8Buick asking about the GS340. He was given the proper information.
There seems to be some confusion on the internet.... sometimes info gets mixed up and folks take it for fact.
In this case the REAL info was there was a 1966 340 'horsepower' 401, and there was a '1967' GS340. Even Johnny Lightning got it mixed up when they released a 1966 GS340 1/64 replica.
Unfortunately, once bad info gets posted on the internet, it's nearly impossible to fix it, but we try.

While we're on the subject of 66's on eBay, I was very tempted to pick up this one. It's a plain Skylark, appears to be unmolested with a great interior. Hard to tell if it's original paint (probably not). Would have been a nice candidate for a quickie resto for a driver.
But, alas, I think I came to my senses and realized I already have enough projects!

Then there are those that cloud facts with confusion on purpose to take advantage of others with misrepresentation.

That lark went pretty cheap and Hackettstown is not that far over there the border from me. For a while, I was looking for a temporary home for my 66 engine, trans and rear end. I gave up when all the rollers were too far gone or too expensive. I guess I should have kept looking. [emoji20]
