Dash Pad reproduction for '65 Skylark/ Gran Sport
« on: September 22, 2016, 06:22:39 PM »
I am going to revisit this topic. It was brought up previously by one of the members here, generated some interest and then died.

I contacted Dash Pad Pros in regards to making a reproduction of the '65 Skylark dash pad.

Cost would be $464 each plus a core and shipping both ways.

Initial run is a minimum of 12 units. Black is the standard. Colors run an additional $25
There would be  a core charge, if you can not supply one.

Will need a solid commitment to go forward with this.  So post here, please.

Loren - Interesting. How would it work for other colors? I guess dye your own?

Dwaine,

I need to research that yet.

September 23 update to this question.
DPP can dye them to factory color for an additional $25.

I'm planning on the just dashes route for arm rest pads and dash pad this winter. Ive heard most of the other options result in the wrong grain. I only want to do it once, hopefully the additional $$ will be worth it.

Interesting. Had heard that the Dash Pad Pros '67 dash pad had the correct grain and that the Just Dashes dash pads had the wrong grain for our cars.

Can anyone confirm the correctness of either suppliers grain pattern ?

I spoke to  Dash Pad Pros this morning to get some more information.

I will be receiving a sample of the vinyl that will be used to cover these. So when it arrives, I can confirm that it is correct.

Also we can have them dyed in factory colors for an additional $25.

There is a core charge of $165 if you don't have one.

Hope this additional information is useful.

Loren , if the vinyl is correct i.d be good for one .
As far as the core goes , does it matter how bad of shape its in ?   I have 2 but would like to send in the worst one as my original is driver quality .    It.s not like its bent or anything but the vinyl is really bad .

Interesting,  Dash Pad Pros have not done a '65 pad as of yet.

Are you possibly referring to Just Dashes?

John,

What is needed as a core is a good solid metal. That is the base for the pad.  I have a good pad that will be used as a pattern to make a mold for the replacement foam.

Maybe I need to clarify the process.

Dash Pad Pros [DPP]  will strip the pad of the old vinyl and foam, then apply new foam, followed by new correct grain vinyl.  If you need a pad other then in black color, then there is an additional $25 charge.
The end product would result in a pad identical to an original.
Unlike another option, the original foam is not used. This results in a soft pad like it was in 1965.

Hope this helps,
 Loren

If the grain is right, i'd be up for one too.  I am checking with JD on their grain match.
