Fuel Filters
« on: July 26, 2009, 01:58:17 PM »
Here's another part that I'm sure is hard or impossible to find.  Does anyone make the original style fuel filter?  All I can find are the plastic-bodied filters that don't fit the bracket correctly.

Thanks,

Chuck

There are 2 different filters used. One for A/C cars and another for non A/C .
Have seen both in an aftermarket unpainted version.

Originals were a dark blue with red painted labeling.

Loren is correct. I was referring to non-AC.

The # Mark mentioned is correct for the non A/C cars.
Had to go out to the shop and find my box of filters to check the A/C car # .
It is GF-423.

My car has no AC, so the number from Mark appears to be correct.

Thanks again!

I bought a few GF-94's a few months ago from Rockauto, and recieved two types...the correct sized one, and a new replacement that is smaller. Both have the same GM part number.  if you do buy some, inspect them before handing over your cash!

Thanks Walt.  I found those at Rock Auto, but am trying to find some locally so that I can inspect them, as you suggest.

It's GM part number 5650780. Maybe try a local dealership.
The box art was changed as well. Gone is the old 'AC' we've been seeing for 40 years. Now it's 'ACDelco'.

Thanks Walt.  I just ordered two from my local dealer.  He will have them by Friday.  $5.76 each, so can't complain about the price.

Great tip; I really appreciate it!!

I knew that was too easy.  I went to the dealer to pick up the filters and when I opened the boxes, they were both the "new" style, generic inline filters.  Both have the crimped seam in the middle that will not fit in the GS bracket.  I'll have to keep looking!

That's a bummer. Looks like the stock of the old style filter is going fast. There must still  be some out there sitting on shelves, we just have to find them. This could be another group project... buy a case or two, and divide them up between us.

Another option is to find a correct-sized replacement.

      Chuck/Walt/George

I will ask my parts sources to see if they can find some AC GF 94 (old style) and if I do, I'll buy as many as I can...   Most of the GM dealerships in my area have closed down. but there are several old parts stores that may have some old stock... I will keep you posted..
