converting from GS wiring to a Skylark??
« on: July 11, 2009, 08:34:20 PM »
Hi,

I added this to my other post but just in case (Differential and Brakes)

I am using a GS engine harness and has one engine connector and another light harness and one wire off the drivers side fender junction block back into the fuse panel

the car I am using has a engine harness and light harness and a separate lug that the Alt wire goes to

can I just Plug and play the GS harness into my Skylark?

do I need to add a Jumper from the junction block to the LUG on the fuse block?

also does anyone have a Wiring diagram of a GS as the service manual does not go that in depth and would help in comparing the 2 electrical systems

one thing to note the GS was a AC car the Skylark was not

thanks
Jim

Jim, I just looked at my 66 GS wiring harness....
The thick red wire runs from the alternator to the fuse box terminal. There is also a thick red wire from the fender-mounted junction block.....it is spliced into the first red wire approx 11" from the fuse box.
So in effect, that thick red wire has three terminals...one at the alt, one at the fuse block terminal, and one at the junction block.
Maybe that answers your question?

Update,

found out GM used 2 different engine compartment bulk head connectors , non-A/C cars had bigger black engine compartment and A/C GS I had had 1 smaller white engine connector and a black connector for the  light harness

I just re-spliced the small block harness and work good until other issues see Drivetrain post if interested

thanks all
