Bob I can't say how impressive your seats look, I've seen seats done professionally that don't look that good. What's a good time for me to drop off my seats?

Turned out nice but not a job for the novice... takes some patients and watching a lot of you tube videos.Bet I have 3 hrs a cushion Labor  thats 18 Hrs not including the frame prep.I blasted the frames and clear coated them .Total probably 24 Hrs .No way i could do it and make any money but I'm sure I would get Faster..I had to readjust my mirror and seat belt because I sat so much higher in the car.The old ones were OEM from 65 and were very stiff .the foam was turning to chalk

Dear Bob, Jim, Kevin, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

Turned out nice but not a job for the novice... takes some patients and watching a lot of you tube videos.

. . .

Total probably 24 Hrs .

In its own way, this is also very important information to share.  If you have a local upholsterer who is good with classic cars, you might be better served to have someone else do this work instead of spending that much time and effort learning to do something you certainly won't be doing very often.

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

My thought exactly, this is a perishable skill that requires repetition to maintain your best game. That's why I'm offering Mr Bob this opportunity. I have known some artisans that will work for non-monetary reimbursement, like beer.
All kidding aside Bobby I'm jealous.

Yes it is a skill/ trade that is fading.
The place I retired from has a very difficult time finding upholsterers. Not a lot of young people interested in it.

One shop has 3rd generation at it! (Re: Legendary Seat Covers)

It isn't a surprise, it is hard dirty work.

Still there are some exceptions.  The local shop that does auto upholstery is run by the 3rd generation.  Armand "Jr." still takes care of most of the classic car work.  He is well beyond retirement!  His son takes care of the rest of the business!  I don't know much about Armand senior, but there must have been one!

It is the sort of situation that can't last, but it is wonderful when you can enjoy it!  :icon_thumright:
