Thanks to Jim
« on: February 05, 2016, 09:10:21 AM »

As everyone should be aware, 65 GS.com doesn't have a membership fee or actively seek donations.

But, on a recent trip through Minnesota, I and my wife recently had the opportunity to enjoy the company of a fellow GS owner, Jim and his wife Kathy. At that time Jim offered some financial support to help with the cost of keeping this site going.

I want to give a big THANKS to Jim and Kathy for their support.

There are others of you out there that continue to help in many ways also, so to everyone of you,Thanks.

Good post Loren,
I was wondering about the cost of operation and who actually had to pay for what. I was thinking maybe we could donate extra parts and instead of selling them,we could have the purchaser put the dough back towards the site. Would that be a possibility?

Dan,

65GS.com was started by Chris Horn in 2005, three years ago I got the opportunity to keep it going  with help from other administrators and board members. So, in short, I'm the guy that keeps the light on. LOL

My post was not an attempt to solicit funds to carry 65GS.com on, just merely a public acknowledgement to Jim and Kathy.

Your idea of donating parts  and using the proceeds for the web site is a good one and I have actually been doing that personally for awhile now, with the help of Dan A.
I'm good at finding and acquiring, poor at selling. LOL

With that said, many of the parts that have been listed on this site , and a few on Ebay, have had a portion of proceeds go toward the future goal of site improvements.

The greatest issue I see with it, is the web site is not a chartable tax write off. So, I'm not sure how that would work.

Thanks ,

Loren

Thanks for everything you do.  How much does it cost a year to run this site?

The cost to keep the site up on a yearly basis includes hosting cost and fees for the domain name.

It went up some this year, but averages approximately $200 annually to keep the lights on. Not what I considered a huge expense.

The big expense will be programing costs to make some improvements to the registry and other areas.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I have started setting monies aside for those future improvements.

The site has made some from the shirt sales and there have been some previous gifts.  I have been selling parts that I acquired over the past 30 years as well as some more recently and putting a portion of those sales into an account.

Many thanks to everyone at 65GS.com,
  Loren

Is there an easy way to donate, like paypal,or other means? It sounds like it would not take a lot of effort on our part to keep you in the black at the end of the year.

Dear Loren, Dan, Rob, Jim, and lovers of mid-60s Buicks,

Is there an easy way to donate, like paypal,or other means? It sounds like it would not take a lot of effort on our part to keep you in the black at the end of the year.

I second that motion!  If you simply setup some way for us to donate, even if this is a small forum I think you would have enough interest to to avoid having to pay much of anything out of pocket.

That would leave you more cash to spend on . . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

I'm at a loss here.

I've maintained 65GS.com because of my passion for our Buicks and feel the forum is a great way for you all to meet, share information and maybe even motivate some of us.

Again, I am not soliciting donations. For those who want to contribute to the future of 65GS.com I can pm my Pay Pal address.

Again many thanks to all our members,
