What happened to the hood ornament? (Re: Posted on CL)

Dear sjfd04, Mark, and 1965 GS fans,

Pretty reasonable price if it is a one owner car.

Point well taken, but there are some odd features about it.  What happened to the hood ornament?  It appears to be have been repainted did they just give up on it?  Also the interior looks in decent shape, but that dash pad appears to have been really beaten up by the sun.  Is that normal?

My trusty wagon has about 270,000 miles so the two cars are comparable.  Yet her dashboard pad is pristine after 50 years.  That suggests to me that this car spent a significant amount of time outside.

All in all, it would be still a very easy restore compared to most of the cars you guys deal with.  Nonetheless, there might be some surprises which have been carefully avoided by the choice of photographs.

Cheers, Edouard

He just sent me additional photos, engine compartment and rear of the car.  Might go look at it on Saturday.  He claims they bought it new and has the owners manual and paperwork.  I will see if he is flexible on the price.

Certainly if it ends up with someone on this board, it will get the luv' it deserves.  Best of luck in convincing the fellow you would take good care of his "baby!"

Cheers, Edouard

That could be a very good deal for what seems a decent looking car. Since Stockton is in the CA central valley, it does get very, very hot and dry during summer, which could contribute to the poor dashboard.

I remember one trucking trip where I wasn't that far from Stockton when it was 114? F with about a 10% humidity!!

I just received a forwarded message on this car from the BCA Bugle editor. Think they want it to have a new home.

I looked at it today and it's a al matching numbers car but a big project . Set in Monterey / Carmel most it's life . Cheap repaint rust in fenders , door , around front & rear glass , trunk pan etc .
Stainless nice but pot metal is all garbage . Missing some trim and a base car only PS and PB . I would have given 3 k tops but was his fathers car and didn't want to offend him with offer .

Well, the only way to know for certain if it is a good/ reasonable buy is first hand inspection.

It is good for you that it was within a close drive and I imagine that you may have saved someone else from a poor decision.

Thanks for the information

Sorry to hear that - tough way for a car to die. (Re: Posted on CL)

Dear Loren, Buicknut65, and 1965 Buick lovers,

I looked at it today and it's a al matching numbers car but a big project . Set in Monterey / Carmel most it's life . Cheap repaint rust in fenders , door , around front & rear glass , trunk pan etc .   Stainless nice but pot metal is all garbage . Missing some trim and a base car only PS and PB . I would have given 3 k tops but was his fathers car and didn't want to offend him with offer .

Sorry to hear that.  Tough that a car managed to survive 50 years in those sorts of conditions and be beyond rescue because of rose colored glasses.  The guy would have been better off to take the 3k and been sure the car was saved.  Oh well, perhaps the guy will wise up before it is too late.

I didn't even offer it to him . I told him everything I could and said I'd help how ever I could . It's savable just looks more like right coast car than left coast . Close to Ocean and not garaged
never seen interior / dash pad as bad from coastal area either just a weird car all and all .
