clutch pedal (Chevelle) compatibility question
« on: October 07, 2015, 11:39:40 AM »
As noted in other threads here, I'm in the early planning stages of doing a 4 speed manual conversion on my 65 GS. One thing I'll need is a clutch/brake pedal assembly.

Question: will a clutch/brake pedal  assembly that was originally on a 4 speed 65 Chevelle work on my 65 GS? i.e., were these compatible across all A-Bodies?

Thanks,

Alan in Reno

No, the pedals are different.   They are similar, but not interchangeable.  You have to get a set from a 64-66 Special/Skylark/GS.  67 Special/Skylark/GS is also different since that is the year the Feds made all the automakers reinforce the steering column mounts and add 4-way flashers, so the column and pedal mount changed significantly.

I thought the '66 Chevelle pedals were the same, at least by looking at pictures of them. I haven't compared them side by side however.

Some of the 64-66 styles differ as to whether the pivot shaft is welded to the pedal or slides on and is held on with a clip.
I had pics of the various styles on my old computer. I should have the pics on a backup somewhere.

The arm that comes up to hit the bump-stop is different and the bends in the pedal arm are different.  On the GTOs, the clutch pedal arm bolts onto the pivot shaft with a nut.  Buick is welded to the shaft as you mentioned.
