I need a photo
« on: October 01, 2015, 01:46:54 AM »
OK, I know this is lame, but....

I'm thinking of swapping out the automatic in my 65 GS convertible for a manual - haven't decided on which manual yet.

But I'd really like to see what the manual  set up looks like coming up through the drive line hump inside the car. I.e., I assume I'll lose the console with tach housing that comes with the automatics - what sort of console, etc was used with the 4 speeds?

Thanks in advance for indulging a newbie.

(minor editing done to reflect correct year of GS)

First of all - Welcome to 65GS.

Your post says you have a 64 GS, hope that was a typo because 65 was the first year for the GS.

Cars with a manual transmission came with no console - just a shifter coming up, or had the optional consolette. See http://65gs.com/Downloads/GS-Options-one.jpg for illustrations.

That options page is informative Dan.  I guess I have never seen that.   I am very intrigued by that storage console for manual cars.  Does anybody know if those are 1965 only?  I want one.

Rob,

The 4 speed cars had those as an option all the way until 1972. The 70 - 72 consoles had a push button top. but the correct one for 65 did not. They are known as shorty consoles and come up on eBay periodically. The padded top is reproduced.

Rob, consolette is 65-72 3spd and 4spd ,storage console is 65 to 70 it was used in skylark and in big cars with bucket seats! The 64's and early 65's used the iron board armrest style! They bolt to the floor a skylark version will be notched to fit the floor and some of the big car ones use a bracket in the rear to mount

Dan, thanks for the welcome to the forum, and you are correct, that was a typo. I have a 65.

Also, thanks a million for that link to the options. That is exactly what I needed to see.

Again, thanks for the prompt and helpful response.

Alan
