Do trim tags denote center consoles or consolets
« on: May 03, 2015, 09:05:45 PM »
Ok guys ,  after checking out all 65s this weekend the questions are building .
The first one I have is on center consoles . Did all 65 GS cars have a short console between the bucket seats ?
I looked at my car today ( after a short nap of course ) and it looks like there are some factory screw holes in the floor where it may have had a console screwed down to the floor .
Is this possible ?   or would the only way to know be by the build sheet .
my manual shows a 1st and 2nd design .

Hi John,

On the manual trans cars, the consoles were optional. All the auto trans cars came with full length consoles. I think some plants had codes on the data plates for a console - Fremont cars would not have that.
Not sure if you have, but post a pic of the data plate on the firewall.
Good to meet you this weekend!

On the Flint built and Kansas built cars there would be a 2f for the 3spd. or
4spd.cars with and  consolette and 2o for cars with a storage console . I
Believe! There would be three screw holes on the front of the tunnel for a
Consolette ( far apart)covering the shifter hole!, and three or four holes right on top of the tunnel
Between the seats for a storage console and sometimes a mounting bracket
For the rear of the storage console.
