15" rally repros
« on: March 04, 2015, 01:50:31 PM »
Hi All,

I am looking to revise the suspension and put the car on lowered spindles and springs for looks and handling. Most lowered spindles I find are not designed to work with the drums and as an added complication the disc conversions are not designed to work with a 14" drum wheel. I am not really wanting to go with a aftermarket look wheel, I just prefer the rally. I have been on the lookout for 15" OEM rallys for quite a while but they are seemingly non-existent, or at least nobody is giving theirs up. There is the repro by Wheel Vintiques but the build quality complaints on those are many. I know there is the billet version but at $500 ea that is a little hard to swallow. The question then is has anyone had a good experience with the WV 57 repro wheel? Summit will sell them guaranteed so I guess I could always order them, have them checked and return if they are bad. Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Elvin,

I too would like to go with a Buick 15" rally wheel.  I have not had much looking at used ones due to rust on the beads, bent rims and curb rash. Have you thought about the new repros from Year One? Does anyone have an opinion about these?

Thanks,
John

John and Elvin,

Pretty sure that the Year One wheels are made by Wheel Vintiques. Think if you ask they would say who made them. WV does have a reputation for producing wheels that rust after a couple of years.

This place http://carusoperformance.com/index.html has a good reputation with the V8Buick members and sells lots of wheels.

I've never bought Buick wheels but I have gotten other tires and wheels from Coker tire and wheel . I see they have the 15 " buick rally listed for 212.00 . ( don't know if they are made by the same company or not)

Thanks Dan. Hadn't come across Caruso before. Looks to be a good product. I do think the year one wheels, coker wheels, and others all seem to be the WV product and the manufacturing issues have been reported to be many, from visible seams to out of round and true, and then there's the rust.
