Buildsheet Decode
« on: July 15, 2014, 09:33:55 AM »
Eureka!! I found my build sheet under the backseat pinned to the seat cover clips. Totally preserved :blob7:
Anyone familiar with decoding these?

Thanks,
She's a solid 2-owner car that has been in storage for 26 years. I actually spoke to the original owners son, and he remembers the car well. His Dad worked at a Cadillac dealer and installed a Eldorado glass in the Conv top and installed Skylark trim. Over the years the car had some water damage to the pass floor and a metal patch panel was fabricated and bolted to the floor and the rear floor support is about gone. I'm trying to figure the easiest fix. I'm considering POR-15 to seal the area.
I just installed a new Gardner exhaust system and Coker BF Goodrich redline radials. The car has had one re paint in lacquer and needs a good wet sand. The interior is original except the front seat covers.

Sweet looking trim tag. Has not been painted over several times like some cars I have owned.

Based on the build sheet the wheel opening moldings were probably added when the side trim, etc was put on. Not a big deal. In the long run you would probably be better served having patch panels welded into the floor. A good body shop can make it look the floors are original.

Very nice car. Thanks for posting more pictures.

Any suggestions where to source a RR floor pan patch panel and floor support brace?

The GM A body floor pan and braces are pretty much identical. Personally like Ames Performance stuff. They sell Pontiac GTO/LeMans items and have quality parts. If you go to their site https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/Search_Web search by Car Model, GTO, 1965, Interiors, Floor Pan Braces and Components. If you are using a body shop to do the cutting and welding they may have their own preference. If you are near a parts vendor and could drive and pick up the part that could save on shipping.

Someone else will probably have suggestions too. Could try doing a search and see if this has been discussed before.

Sometimes Chevelle stuff is different. Pontiac/Olds/Buick have more in common.
Ames is a good choice. I'm local to www.performanceyears.com   which is another well regarded Pontiac supplier.
Is there still a Jegs in Columbus? That may work for you. I went to college (DeVry) there a few decades ago. I actually rode my 10 speed bike to National Trail for a car meet (didn't have gas money!)  where I met and talked to guy in a Buick T shirt. He offered me a lift home. Put my 10 speed in the back of his GS.  The guy was Brad Conley and the GS was the GSX prototype. That was '81 or '82.
